Moss Walls

How to Care for a Moss Wall

Moss Walls have been fully dried, preserved, and dyed- therefore no care is required to maintain the initial design. If you leave your moss wall in direct, prolonged sunlight, you may run the risk of sun bleaching the color.

Do not spray with water! The moss used in every Overstory moss wall was purchased live from a local Pennsylvania farm and then hand preserved and dyed. The moss is no longer able to absorb water, and water collection can lead to mold or changes in the dye. Additionally, to avoid any potential damage, it is not recommended to keep moss walls in unventilated bathrooms where there is a shower.

All Moss Walls are designed one of one- your moss wall is exclusive to its buyer. If a wall has sold that you love, it can still be used as inspiration for your custom piece as long as it is communicated in the ordering process.

Kokedamas

What is a Kokedama

A Japanese gardening technique where a plant’s root ball is encased in mud, wrapped in moss, and bound with string. Often called “string gardens,” these living, sculptural art pieces offer a minimalist, low-maintenance way to display plants.

Kokedamas have two living parts to care for- the moss and the plant encased inside, but the care plan is simple. Once a week, fill a bowl or pot with water and allow to soak thoroughly for a few minutes. Gently squeeze excess water before hanging or returning to display dish. Kokedamas should be kept in indirect or part-shade lighting.  If the air is generally dry where your Kokedama is, spray the exterior moss with moss as needed to avoid the moss drying out.

Kokedamas should last around 1-3 years in their original wrapping.

Kokedamas can be hung or laid in a dish.
